Selecting a team of the best players aged 22 and under is always a tough task. Here’s a breakdown of every member of the AFLPA’s 22under22 40-man squad to help you in that process, thanks to Champion Data.

Defenders

Harris Andrews: Ranks No.1 in the AFL for spoils with 10 per game and sixth for intercept marks with three per game.

Alex Witherden: Ranks 16th in the AFL for total rebound 50s with 87 per game and second at Brisbane for total uncontested marks with five per game.

Sydney Stack: Ranks sixth in the AFL for average disposals per turnover with 12 per game and eighth for pressure points among defenders with 33 per game

Sam Taylor: Ranks third at GWS for average intercept marks with two per game and spoils with six per game.

Jacob Weitering: Ranks sixth in the AFL for intercept marks with 51 and 10th for spoils with 111. He is ranked No.1 at Carlton in both of these areas.

Blake Hardwick: Ranks second among defenders under-22 for tackles with four per game and rebound 50s with five per game.

Dan Houston: Ranks second at Port Adelaide for total effective kicks with 162 and third for total rebound 50s with 60. He also averages the most disposals among defenders under-22 with 21 per game.

Jordan Dawson: Ranks fourth at Sydney for total intercept marks with 27 and fifth for total rebound 50s with 48.

Callum Mills: Averages seven marks per game, the second most at Sydney. He also ranks fourth at Sydney for intercepts and kicking efficiency.

Bayley Fritsch: Ranks No.1 at Melbourne for total marks with 114 and second for total effective kicks with 150.

Wayne Milera: Has broken 11 tackles in 2019, the most of any player at Adelaide. He also ranks third in marks at Adelaide with six per game and fourth in uncontested marks with five per game.

Midfielders

Clayton Oliver: Ranks No.1 in the AFL for total contested possessions and ground ball gets. He also averages seven clearances per game, ranked No.1 among players under-22.

Tim Taranto: Averages 25 pressure acts per game, the most at GWS and the fifth most in the league. He also averages seven tackles per game, the most at GWS and the second most of any player under-22.

James Worpel: Averages 26 disposals in 2019, the most at Hawthorn. He also ranks No.1 at Hawthorn for total contested possessions and pressure points.

Josh Dunkley: Ranks No.1 for ranking points among players under-22 with 113 per game. He also averages seven score involvements per game, the most of any player under-22.

Hugh McCluggage: Ranks second at Brisbane for uncontested possessions with 14 per game and third for inside 50s with four per game. He also ranks No.1 for goals among players under 22.

Jacob Hopper: Has accumulated 103 hard ball gets in 2019, the second most in the AFL and the most at GWS. He also averages six clearances, the most at GWS, and the 10th most in the league.

Oliver Florent: Ranks fourth in the AFL for baulks with nine. He also averages four inside 50s per match, the second most at Sydney.

Zac Fisher: Averages four loose ball gets per game, the third most at Carlton. He also ranks fourth at Carlton for clearances with four per game.

Bailey Smith: Ranks fifth at the Western Bulldogs for hard ball gets with three per game and tackles with four per game.

Andrew McGrath: Ranks fifth at Essendon for disposals with 20 per game and uncontested possessions with 14 per game.

Darcy Parish: Ranks No.1 at Essendon for loose ball gets with five per game. He also ranks fifth at Essendon for inside 50s and contested possessions.

Brayden Fiorini: Ranks No.1 at Gold Coast for disposals with 26 per game, inside 50s with four and uncontested possessions with 16. He also ranks No.1 for metres gained among players under-22.

Jordan Clark: Averages 24 metres gained per-disposal, the second most at Geelong and 12th in the AFL. He is also ranked No.1 at Geelong for running bounces.

Sam Walsh: Ranks No.1 at Carlton for uncontested possessions with 16 per game. He also averages 21 pressure acts and 26 disposals, the second most at Carlton in both areas.

Sam Petrevski-Seton: Ranks No.1 at Carlton for Post-Clearance tackles. He ranks fifth among midfielders for average intercept possessions with four per match. At Carlton, Petrevski-Seton ranks third for average pressure points.

Darcy Tucker: Plays a high-pressure game, ranking second at Fremantle for both total pressure acts and total pressure points. He ranks sixth in the competition among mid-forwards for uncontested possession per match with 12.5 per match.

Jarrod Berry: Ranks second at Brisbane for total broken tackles, with 12. Berry averages eight effective handballs per match, the second most at Brisbane. Berry ranks 14th for average score involvements among the 22Under22 eligible players with 5.5 per match.

Forwards

Jy Simpkin: Ranks second in the AFL for baulks with 13. Simpkin ranks second at North Melbourne for total Clearances with 67, an average of 3.7 per match.

Brent Daniels: Gets involved in scoring frequently, ranking fourth in the AFL for total score assists with 30. He ranks third for total score involvements among players who qualify for the 22Under22 squad.

Aaron Naughton: Has taken the most contested marks in the AFL after 20 rounds with 43. He has been targeted one-on-one 81 times this season, the fourth most in the league. His 35 marks on the lead is the fourth-most in the AFL.

Shai Bolton: Averages six score involvements per match, which is fifth among 22Under22 eligible players. Bolton averages 1.2 score assists per match, ranked third at Richmond.

Gryan Miers: Ranks third for score assists for Geelong. He has been involved in 36.8 per cent of Geelong’s scores, ranked third at Geelong.

Eric Hipwood: Gains territory with his disposals, gaining 24m per disposal, ranked ninth in the AFL and No.1 at Brisbane. Hipwood has been involved in 54.4% of Brisbane’s scores, ranked eighth in the competition.

Liam Ryan: Has 25 score assists in 2019, the most of any Eagles player. Ryan ranks sixth for goals among 22Under22 eligible players.

Cameron Zurhaar: Has kicked 25 goals in 2019, the second most of 22Under22 players and second to Ben Brown for total goals at North Melbourne. Zurhaar ranks second at North Melbourne for post-clearance tackles per match with 2.8 per match.

Jade Gresham: Ranks ninth in the AFL for inside 50’s with 81 for the season and No.1 among 22Under22 eligible players. He has won 94 loose ball gets this season, the 14th most in the AFL and the most at St Kilda. He ranks seventh for Contested Possessions per match for 22Under22 players with 10 per match.

Connor Rozee: Has kicked 23 goals this season, ranked No.1 for first-year players, fifth for 22Under22 eligible players and first at Port Adelaide. Rozee ranks seventh for total contested knock-ons and 10th for total post-clearance tackles in the league.

Rucks

*Harry McKay: Has taken 39 marks on the lead in 2019, the second most in the league. He ranks fourth for contested marks per match with 2.3 and has kicked 24 goals, ranked fourth for total goals by 22Under22 eligible players.

Tim English: Ranks fourth for uncontested possessions with eight per game and fifth for score involvements with five per game amongst ruckmen.
