Three players selected in the AFL Players’ 22Under22 team were rewarded for their outstanding 2014 seasons with selection in the All-Australian team.

Adelaide’s Brodie Smith and Daniel Talia were selected in both the 22Under22 and All Australian teams this year, as was Essendon’s Dyson Heppell.

The trio has followed in the footsteps of Chad Wingard, Dan Hannebery and Jeremy Cameron, who were selected in both the 22Under22 and All-Australian teams last year.

Smith was named on a half-back flank in both the All-Australian and 22Under22 teams, having had the second-most rebound 50s in the competition this season. He finished in fourth place in the Crows’ best and fairest award.

Talia has been a 22Under22 favourite since his breakout debut year in 2012, having been named in both the 2013 and 2014 22Under22 teams, as well as the retrospective 2012 team.

His 2014 season was as complete as any key defender’s could be, taking out the Crows’ best and fairest award and full-back in this year’s All-Australian line-up.

Heppell continued his rise as one of the competition’s best young players, breaking into the elite category in the absence of skipper Jobe Watson. He was named 22Under22 captain for the second consecutive year and also gained selection in the 2014 All-Australia team on the wing.

The 2014 All Australian team also featured two former 22Under22 players with recently crowned AFL Players’ MVP Nathan Fyfe and Hawk Luke Breust gaining All-Australian honours.

Selected in the initial 40-man All-Australian squad, Luke Parker, Jack Gunston, Brandon Ellis, and Tom Liberatore were considered unlucky to miss the final team after also gaining 22Under22 honours this season.
