Adelaide midfielder wins second MVP of the Week

Adelaide midfielder Ebony Marinoff has been voted by the fans as the Preliminary Finals AFLW MVP of the Week, presented by Gloria Jean’s.

Nominated for the fourth time this season, Marinoff claimed her second MVP of the Week ahead of Carlton’s Lauren Brazzale and Crows teammate Erin Phillips, making it the fifth victory by an Adelaide player this season.

Marinoff’s win was one of the largest of the season, surging ahead with 53 percent of the fan vote, with Brazzale coming second with 38 percent.

Staking her claim for the Crows’ best and fairest, Marinoff gathered 27 touches, including 22 kicks, laid 10 tackles and delivered eight inside 50s in a best-on-ground performance as Adelaide stormed home to their second AFLW grand final.

Carlton’s Brazzale, who was nominated for the first time in her career, was the Blues’ best in their stunning 36-point victory over Fremantle. Brazzale collected 22 disposals and seven inside 50s to give Carlton their first tilt at an AFLW premiership.

Phillips rounded out the three nominees with nine percent of the vote following her 23 disposals, six tackles, six inside 50s and three marks.

The AFL Players’ Association has partnered with Gloria Jean’s to stage the prestigious AFLW Players’ MVP Award at the end of the season, and the AFLW MVP of the Week again in 2019, a concept that provides fans with the opportunity to vote for the best performer of the round.
