AFL COACHES’ VOTES – ROUND 22

With just one round to go, the AFL Coaches’ Champion Player of the Year award remains well and truly up for grabs.

Fremantle star Nat Fyfe still sits atop the leaderboard, but a nine-vote performance from Sydney’s Dan Hannebery has seen him close the gap to just six votes.

With Fyfe set to watch the final match of the season from the sidelines, due to injury, Hannebery would need to poll six votes in the final round to draw level with Fyfe, or seven votes to win the award outright. Players can be awarded up to 10 votes per match.

Should Hannebery be awarded six votes in Sydney’s Round 23 clash with Gold Coast, he and Fyfe will be just the second group of joint winners since the award’s inception in 2003. Sydney’s Adam Goodes and Adelaide’s Simon Goodwin shared the honour in 2006.

While Hannebery’s nine-vote performance was one of the highest of the weekend, three players went one better and scored a perfect 10. Western Bulldogs young gun Marcus Bontempelli and Adelaide spearhead Josh Jenkins were given top marks, while Collingwood’s Taylor Adams was unanimously voted best afield in Collingwood’s thrashing of Geelong on Friday night.

Comeback kid Daniel Menzel was awarded just one vote from the coaches for his first match back, despite finishing with 20 disposals and four goals.
