AFL Evolution 2 due for 2019 release

The AFL and the AFL Players’ Association (AFLPA) are pleased to announce a sequel to the AFL Evolution video game will be released in 2019.

The new version will feature both the Toyota AFL Premiership Season and the NAB AFL Women’s Competition and its players following an extensive process to recreate likeness.

The number of AFL venues included will increase to 15 with the introduction of highly-detailed representations of Ballarat’s MARS Stadium, TIO Traeger Park in Alice Springs and Hobart’s Blundstone Arena.

The game will also feature the VFL, SANFL, WAFL, NEAFL and TAC Cup competitions.

AFL Evolution 2 is currently in production with AFL licensee Tru Blu Entertainment in conjunction with Wicked Witch Software and will be available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC Steam.

AFL General Manager Commercial Kylie Rogers praised the success of 2017’s AFL Evolution.

“AFL Evolution 2 will build upon the success of its predecessor, giving footy fans an enhanced AFL video game experience when it’s released in the first half of 2019,” Ms Rogers said.

“Digital platforms give our fans another way to deepen their engagement with the game alongside their involvement playing, watching or officiating.

“Tru Blu Entertainment and Wicked Witch Software have worked tirelessly over the past three and a half years to put in place a great foundation for future video game releases,” she said.

AFL Players Association General Manager – Communications, Commercial and Strategic Communication, Rebecca Chitty said the players were thrilled to deliver this exciting product to the fans.

“AFL Evolution has been a great success since its release in 2017. We know that gaming is popular pastime amongst the players and that they really love being featured in the game,” Ms Chitty said.

“Digital platforms are a great way for both the AFL and players to engage with fans, so we’re excited about the release of AFL Evolution 2.”

Tru Blu Entertainment Managing Director Sebastian Giompaolo spoke about the development.

“It’s a pleasure to work with the AFL on what will be our fourth major video game release. We enjoy a close working relationship with the AFL and it’s our mission to deliver the detail and intensity of the modern AFL game in arguably the best footy video game experience,” Mr Giompaolo said.

AFL Evolution 2 will be packed with many new features and additions including a facelift for the commentary box to include Anthony Hudson and Garry Lyon who will take over from Dennis Cometti and Matthew Richardson.

AFL Evolution 2 will be on sale via download and through leading video game retailers and selected AFL channels. Further details will be released in the coming weeks.
