AFL Players, Vic Health Walk to School

Twenty-seven kids in regional Victoria received an experience they’ll never forget when two AFL stars rocked up to their school.

Labertouche Primary School won the 2017 VicHealth Walk to School program as the school who walked, rode or scooted the most in their region as part of the initiative.

Located 100km east of Melbourne, the town of Labertouche has a population of around 500 people but that didn’t stop the 27 students from registering their info and getting active while on their journey to school in October.

The prize for being the best in their region was a visit from Melbourne star Neville Jetta and Western Bulldogs Women’s captain Katie Brennan and a footy clinic hosted by the pair.

Brennan told AFLPlayers.com.au that it was a great opportunity to give back to the community.

“It’s one of the real privileges of being in our position to be able to pass on really healthy and active messages like VicHealth and Walk to School but also able to give these kids a different experience and hopefully one they’ll be able to talk to their friends about and remember for a long time.”

VicHealth’s Walk to School program is a free, easy and fun way to get primary school kids and their families active this October. VicHealth is teaming up with the AFL Players’ Association to encourage Victorian primary school kids to walk, ride or scoot to and from school throughout October to help build healthy habits for life.

Participating schools have the opportunity to win a footy clinic led by an AFL or AFLW player. Join thousands of Victorian families for Walk to School 2018 — find out more and register your school at walktoschool.vic.gov.au.
