AFLCA Next Coach 2017

Local football coaches with aspirations of graduating to the elite level can now access the coaching program that helped Adam Simpson and Simon Goodwin become senior AFL coaches.

The Next Coach program has been completed by 34 coaches currently in the AFL system and is now open to aspiring coaches outside the AFL system.

Running more than 10 sessions, the course provides participants with the opportunity to learn about the critical components of coaching under the guidance of former AFL assistant coach David Wheadon.

The Next Coach program is a partnership between AFL Coaches’ Association and the AFL Players’ Association and is available in person and online.

  • Teaching
  • Learning styles
  • Management
  • Emotional intelligence and coaching
  • Presentations and meetings
  • Teaching the game – decision making/skill acquisition/game sense
  • The role and skills of the coach, assistant coach and development coach
  • Strategy and tactics
  • Key performance indicators for success
  • Game plan
  • Leadership
