AFL player representatives from across the entire competition gathered in Torquay on Thursday and Friday for the annual Directors and Delegates Conference.

Led by Patrick Dangerfield, Scott Pendlebury, Rory Sloane and Easton Wood, AFLPA Board members and delegates discussed the future of the game, competition structure, MRP/tribunal, GPS data, career transition, social issues, the media and player development.

The AFL’s Football Operations Manager, Steve Hocking, presented to the players about his plans for the role, and award-winning journalist Gerard Whateley joined the players for dinner to speak about his experience in the media.

AFLPA CEO Paul Marsh said the opportunity to discuss various issues with the delegates was crucial for the organisation.

“With the CBA dominating the agenda for two years, we now have an opportunity to implement strategies to keep improving the game for the past, current and future players,” Marsh said.

“The AFLPA Board and delegates are a key link between the association and the playing group so a chance to meet with them ensures we are continuing to positively impact their workplace.

“The conference is a chance for them to express the issues affecting their teammates and contribute to the direction of the AFLPA.”

There are two player delegates representing each AFL and AFLW team, which supports the 11-member player board.
