AFLW Player of the Week: Round 7

Each week, Aflplayers.com.au has highlighted a Player of the Week during the AFLW season.

With her side securing a spot in the AFLW Grand Final with a victory over Collingwood, Adelaide’s Sarah Perkins receives the Round 7 honour.

Perkins was pivital in the Crows’ 24-point win, collecting 15 disposals (the third-most on the ground), and booting four goals from seven shots.

The 23-year-old finished the home and away season with 11 majors, second only to Carlton’s Darcy Vescio in the AFLW competition.

Adelaide assistant coach Andrew Hodges spoke to Aflplayers.com.au about Perkins’ impact during Round 7.

“She was pretty important for us on the weekend. She was influential during the play but also in the opportunities that she created for her teammates through pressure acts.

She put in a four-quarter effort but her second quarter was outstanding — I think she had seven disposals in that term — kicked a goal and created more chances for her teammates.

The great thing about Perko is she’s always involved in the play even though she’s positioned up forward. She always does something to bring her teammates into the game.

You’ll find that at one stage, throughout the year, she was in the top bracket in the competition for pressure acts.

As a forward, at times she would be outnumbered in a contest but would still be able to compete and as a coaching staff there’s not much more you can ask for than that.

She’s been consistent throughout the year and she works hard on and off the track. We’re very lucky to have her and she’s great around the group.

Perko works hard on her game overall. She’s worked really hard on her fitness and is continually trying to improve. As you can probably tell already, she’s a very team orientated person and her teammates love playing footy with her.”
