Agents In Abundance At Annual Conference

The AFL Players’ Association recently held it’s annual player agents conference, with the league’s top agents turning out to discuss specific issues in the game.

Each year the league’s accredited agents are invited to attend the conference which is spread over two days and covers topics such the current CBA negotiations, women’s football and gambling harm prevention.

“It’s a good time for the agents to get together and just chat about issues affecting our players” – Scott Lucas

Overall 70 agents attended the conference which featured a number of guest speakers such as National Talent and International Manager Kevin Sheehan, the AFL’s Manager of TPP Assurance and Advice Ken Wood and Deakin University’s Associate Professor of Public Health Samantha Thomas, each talking through their areas of expertise.

The AFL Players’ Association’s General Manager of Player Relations Brett Murphy said the conference is important for collaboration between the AFLPA and the accredited agents.

“It’s a great opportunity to meet with them, catch up on things, understand their views and get their thoughts on things,” Murphy told Aflplayers.com.au.

“We had some really interesting speakers in addition to the PA… that talked to them about things that are really relevant to the individual players such as illicit drugs, gambling and speakers from the AFL talking about the total player payments pool.”

Former Essendon champion and current player agent Scott Lucas said it’s important for agents to keep up-to-date on relevant topics.

“It’s a good time for the agents to get together and just chat about issues affecting our players, how we can help them and be across the broader issues the industry is facing.”
