Three new faces have been nominated for the AFLW MVP of the Week for Round 2, presented by Gloria Jean’s. Adelaide’s Stevie-Lee Thompson, North Melbourne’s Emma Kearney and Melbourne’s Elise O’Dea have been selected after leading their teams to victory.
In Adelaide’s first win of the season, defender-turned-forward Thompson dominated as she kicked four goals to lead the Crows to a thrilling victory over Carlton. The pacey forward gathered 17 disposals and laid three tackles as she asserted herself in her new position.
The North Melbourne Tasmanian Kangaroos improved to a 2-0 start to the season, shrugging off two weather delays, defeating the GWS Giants by 25 points in Sydney. Captain and reigning AFLW best-and-fairest Kearney was best afield in the tumultuous conditions gathering 22 touches and laying eight tackles in the win.
In a dominant team display on Saturday, Melbourne co-captain O’Dea worked tirelessly gathering 26 touches, laying five tackles and kicking one goal in the Demons’ 17-point win over Collingwood.
