Jack Riewoldt: Avant Garde Fashionista

There was a time when men who attended the races weren’t expected to be all that well-dressed.

A black suit with a white shirt and plain tie was generally enough to get a bloke through a day at Flemington without raising too many eyebrows. Times have changed, and the fashion bar has been lifted.

While men’s outfits still don’t hold a candle to the ensembles women put together each race-day, guys are unquestionably expected to put in more effort than ever before. It can be a challenge to come up with a new outfit – something that stands out from the crowd, but isn’t seen as a violent crime against fashion – but thankfully Richmond’s Jack Riewoldt has come up with a simple and pain-free way to work through the process.

The Tiger spearhead’s method sees a range of ties – some tasteful, others bordering on absurd – raffled off to all those participating.

If Jumpin’ Jack’s profile photo on Twitter is anything to go by, he drew the short straw on Derby Day.

With Oaks Day and Stakes Day still ahead, blokes who’ve attended a few race meets already this season and are out of fashion ideas could do worse than adopt Riewoldt’s creative selection method.
