After a dominant display in North Melbourne’s maiden AFLW match, Emma King has been nominated for the AFLW MVP of the Week for Round 1, presented by Gloria Jean’s. The former Magpie is joined by Geelong’s Nina Morrison and Adelaide’s Ebony Marinoff.
In what was the biggest win by any team in the first week, King led the goal-kicking as the Kangaroos were propelled by a massive second quarter to overcome Carlton. King was a standout rotating through the ruck and forward line with 16 hitouts, 10 disposals and seven tackles to go with her two goals.
Last year’s No. 1 draft pick, Nina Morrison was the talking point of the round after gathering 22 disposals and eight tackles on debut. The 18-year-old didn’t look out of place on the big stage, kicking the winning behind to seal Geelong’s win in their inaugural AFLW match.
Despite going down to the Western Bulldogs by one point, Adelaide’s Ebony Marinoff worked tirelessly on Saturday night gathering a game-high 25 disposals and laying 10 tackles.
