Q&A With Rising Star Jack Billings

Young St Kilda half-forward Jack Billings has been awarded the Rising Star nomination for Round 14 following his 25-disposal, three-goal effort in the Saints’ 33-point loss to the Eagles on Sunday.

The nomination is St Kilda’s second for 2014, with Luke Dunstan nominated in Round 1 this year.

Taken with pick #3 in last year’s draft, Billings has averaged 14 disposals and a goal per game in his 10 matches so far.

Highlighting the recent list changes at St Kilda, Billings’ nomination is the first time the club’s had dual Rising Star nominations in one season since 2003.

The classy left-footer spoke of the influence older players such as Leigh Montagna – one of those nominated in 2003 – have on the current inexperienced group.

“I’ve done a fair bit of work with Leigh Montagna, who is my mentor, and he’s been really good with day-to-day stuff during the week.

“Also Jarryn Geary, I’ve created a pretty strong relationship with him… like ‘Joey’, he’s giving me a fair bit of advice as well.”

Jack Billings is eligible for this year’s 22under22 team. Will you be voting for him in your final side? Let us know in the comment box below.
