Record-breaker headlines AFLW MVP of the Week nominees

A record-breaking performance from the Western Bulldogs’ Brooke Lochland headlines the nominations for the AFLW MVP of the Week for Round 4, presented by Gloria Jean’s. Lochland is joined by the Brisbane Lions’ Jess Wuetschner and Alicia Eva from the GWS Giants, who becomes the first player to be nominated twice.

In front of just under 9,000 spectators at the Whitten Oval in the inaugural AFLW Pride game, Lochland made the most of a depleted Carlton backline, kicking seven goals and collecting 17 disposals in a triumphant 73-point win. The Bulldogs’ score of 12.14 (86) is the highest ever recorded in an AFLW game.

The Brisbane Lions continue to chalk up the wins, overcoming Fremantle by just seven points on Saturday. In what was a low scoring contest, Wuetschner was the difference maker, kicking two important goals to go along with 18 disposals.

Alicia Eva stood out in difficult conditions in the first draw of the 2018 season, gathering 23 disposals and laying eight tackles in a dogged display.

The AFL Players’ Association has partnered with Gloria Jean’s to stage the prestigious AFLW Players’ MVP Award at the end of the season, and the AFLW MVP of the Week, a new concept that provides the fans with the opportunity to vote for the best performer of the round.

Fans will get the choice to select the MVP of the Week, after the three names have been put forward by the AFLPA.

All fans who vote will automatically receive a 2-for-1 coffee voucher to be used at any Gloria Jean’s store, and will go into the running to win the major weekly prize, a Moccamaster Coffee Machine, valued at $450. To vote, simply select the player you deem to be the MVP of the Week. Voting closes on Wednesday, February 28 at 5pm AEDT.
