Sounds of the game: Troy Chaplin and Tom Jonas

Throughout the 2015 season, Channel 7’s cameras have taken us behind the scenes, mic’ing up players to give fans an insight into what’s said on the field and in the locker rooms.

Having seen Melbourne’s Nathan Jones, North Melbourne’s Andrew Swallow and Port Adelaide’s Jack Hombsch already this season, fans were given a glimpse of another two defenders in the past fortnight.

Troy Chaplin

Chaplin has been praised for bringing a calmness and sensibility to the Tigers’ defence since arriving at Punt Road from Port Adelaide at the end of 2012.

The 29-year-old could be heard making jokes about Richmond assistant coach Mark ‘Choco’ Williams, before encouraging club leaders Alex Rance and Jack Riewoldt to continually pass on feedback to the younger Tigers during the warm-up, prior to their Round 13 loss to the Sydney Swans.

TOM JONAS

The Port Adelaide defender had 23 disposals in last week’s loss to Sydney, but also showed he’s a defensive marshal on the field, encouraging young midfielder Ollie Wines to block the Swans’ outlets at stoppages and demanding other Power players pick up the loose Swans floating forward.
