Essendon – Tips from Brendon Goddard

AFL 2014 Rd 14 - Essendon v Adelaide

Which established player is in for a huge season?

Goddard says: “A guy like Matthew Leuenberger who was somewhat limited in his opportunities at another club has come in for more exposure at senior level. He could potentially be our number one ruckman and have a pretty good year.

“Looking at guys who have probably underperformed in the last few years, and one that springs to mind is David Zaharakis. He’s one who I see relishing the opportunity of spending more time as an inside midfielder and being exposed to different roles within the team.”

Matthew Leuenberger: SuperCoach: ($310,700 Ruc, Fwd)

AFL Fantasy: ($301,000 Ruc, Fwd)

David Zaharakis: SuperCoach: ($414,800 Mid)

AFL Fantasy: ($415,000 Mid)

Who do you expect to have a breakout year?

Goddard says: “Jayden Laverde and Kyle Langford are two guys who are into their second years and with that comes a more mature body, and they have hardened bodies at such a young age, particularly with Jayden who’s quite strong and powerful.

“International rookie Connor McKenna stands out at training. He’s quick and already has good skills and he’s eye-catching at training so he might have an impact if he gets the opportunity at AFL level.”

Jayden Laverde: SuperCoach: ($309,400 Fwd)

AFL Fantasy: ($316,000 Fwd)

Kyle Langford: SuperCoach: ($188,200 Fwd)

AFL Fantasy: ($187,000 Fwd)

Connor McKenna: SuperCoach: ($189,900 Fwd)

AFL Fantasy: ($210,000 Fwd)

Which young gun will have a big impact in 2016?

Goddard says: “The obvious ones are Darcy Parish and Aaron Francis. Darcy’s had a pretty solid pre-season while Aaron has very much been on a fitness-based program so he’s a little bit behind Darcy. But in terms of their potential influence throughout the year, those guys will be exposed to senior footy pretty early.”

Darcy Parish: SuperCoach: ($202,800 Mid)

AFL Fantasy: ($260,000 Mid)

Aaron Francis: SuperCoach: ($198,300 Mid, Def)

AFL Fantasy: ($221,000 Mid, Def)
