Hodge and Murphy launch Official Collector Cards App

Luke Hodge and Marc Murphy have helped launch Select’s new Official AFL Collector Cards app, which is set to ensure footy cards become the talk of the school yard once again in 2014.

Select Australia has partnered with Isobar to bring traditional AFL collector cards into the digital age, with the Select Official AFL Collector Cards app launched last week.

Working closely with the AFL Players’ Association, the AFL and Select, Isobar conceptualised and built the app that uses image recognition to scan physical cards into a digital album. Collectors are also able to create their own team out of their favourite cards and share their collection on social media.

Those lucky enough to collect a rare ‘Best and Fairest’ card are treated to an extra special experience. Using motion capture technology, Isobar was able to film then animate each individual player into a 3D model that plays alongside video highlights and audio commentary.

Konrad Spilva, Isobar’s Managing Director says ‘Collecting and trading footy cards is an iconic part of so many Aussie childhoods, and to be given the opportunity to bring them into the digital age and set them up for years to come is simply brilliant.”

For now, users are incentivised to expand their collection with virtual coins, awarded for each card they scan in.  But looking forward, there are some exciting plans including incorporating digital trading between users.

Grant Copley, Managing Director of Select Australia said, “Select is extremely proud to offer its 2014 series of AFL collector cards and its first digital release. We hope collectors young and old will embrace this new innovation in the collector card industry.”

The app is now available for download here.
