Cachia v Shaw: Rock-Climbing

As part of TeamUp’s #FindYourMotivation in June campaign, former Carlton midfielder Jaryd Cachia teamed up with partner Sophie Shaw (aka the Young Mummy) for a rock-climbing session.

This article, written by Sophie, was originally published on her blog, which can be accessed here.

This time last week I participated in something completely out of my comfort zone, and if I was to be brutally honest about, something I was pooing my pants about!

Rock climbing! That’s right, last Wednesday Jaryd & I went rock climbing!

Thanks to TeamUp – an initiative of VicHealth – there is an app now available that allows individuals to locate low cost physical activities in their local area.

‘What I especially liked about using the TeamUp app to find a rock-climbing centre was that I was exposed to a form of physical exercise that I would never normally partake in.’

The app – which caters for all levels of fitness & interest – was developed to encourage Victorians to connect with others through exercise, and therefore to motivate people to get active and stay active.

In a country where around 60% of adults are classified as overweight, with more than 25% of these falling into the obese category, the TeamUp app is a great way of providing non-traditional exercise options to everybody.

Not only can you download the app and see what’s happening around your area, you can also create a page yourself and reach out to the TeamUp world in order to find interests that suit you. For example, you could be looking for a social netball team to join, a running partner, or be a fitness training trying to recruit members. Therefore, TeamUp can be used as a free promotional tool!

What I especially liked about using the TeamUp app to find a rock-climbing centre was that I was exposed to a form of physical exercise that I would never normally partake in. It was a great option for my partner & I to participate in together – having extremely different fitness levels & interests, we were able to meet half way and have a semi-fun day out together (I say semi-fun only because of how scared I was the whole time!)

I’ve always been a physically active woman, but like all mums know, it’s very hard to get back into it post-bub. Between having the energy and most importantly the TIME – there can be many hurdles in front of you. 14 months on and I’m only now starting to really kick my butt into gear, so with TeamUp providing such a wide variety of options for mums out there, the app is perfect in helping you find that motivation.

To find activities such as Zumba, Pilates, basketball, bike riding, group training and many more, simply download the app ‘TeamUp’ or visit www.teamup.com.au for an online version.
