AFL Players’ ‘Footballers in Business’ event

Held in conjunction with The Art Series Hotels Group at the classy Olsen Hotel in South Yarra, and on the eve of the 2017 Finals Series, the AFL Players’ ‘Footballers in Business’ networking event aims to connect AFL players and corporate Melbourne.

Guest speakers on the night will be headlined by current and recently retired AFL players who have business interests. They will provide a fascinating insight into how they have been able to forge a new career path in conjunction with their AFL careers.

The event will include current and former male and female AFL players, AFL Players’ Association staff and partners and will provide a unique corporate hospitality opportunity, and the chance to rub shoulders with AFL players who share a passion for business.

Brad Sewell — Australian Football Rules College
After an illustrious premiership career with the Hawks, Brad has been active in his transition into the business world by completing an MBA from Monash University and starting the Australian Rules Football College. The college aims to provide a new pathway to the AFL system for potential draftees and also offers a specialised qualification within the sporting industry.

Dylan Grimes — Mount Macedon Winery
After being closed for several years, Dylan and partner Elisha put everything they had into restoring the property and reopening its doors once again in Summer of 2016. With rustic country charm, Mount Macedon Winery has captured the hearts of many as a wedding venue, a weekend getaway, or a must see for lunch and a glass of wine.

Tyson Goldsack — Utonic
Tyson Goldsack has filled a variety of roles in his ten-year career at the Collingwood Football Club, but now enjoys being a key senior team member and mentoring the younger players on and off the field. With a passion for fitness Tyson is an ever-present figure in the promotion of health and is the current ambassador for Fitness First gym group.  As one of the founders of UTONIC, Tyson has been actively involved with the formulation of the drink range and ensuring that they align with his requirements as a professional athlete.

Chris Knights — Zib Media
The 100-gamer for Adelaide and Richmond took a hands-on role at his media company, Zib Media — one of Melbourne’s leading SEO experts — which launched four years ago when Knights recognised a gap in the market.  Zib Media operates in both Melbourne and Adelaide, building websites and performing search engine optimisation. The company is currently diversifying into application-building and software development. In 2014, Zib Media gained industry recognition, becoming a top ten finalist in the competitive 2014 Australian Startup Awards.

Alex Rance — The Academy
Alex founded the Academy in 2016, which provides an education and training program for student — athletes that aims to equip them with education and life skills that may be transposed to alternative career pathways and also best prepare them for the opportunity to be prepared for an AFL environment.

Arun Abey — Entrepreneur
Arun Abey has had a diverse career as an academic, an experienced entrepreneur and a leading international executive with one of the world’s largest firms.

Katie Brennan — KB Performance
Katie opened KB. Performance in 2016, to empower, educate and inspire women to lead a healthy, active and authentic life. KB. Performance is about nurturing females and providing a safe and positive environment where they can be at their best.
