‘Daisy is just true to herself’

As voted by her peers, Daisy Pearce has won the AFLW Players’ Best Captain Award, proudly presented by The Diamond Guys

Melbourne’s Shelley Scott penned a column for aflplayers.com.au about what makes Daisy such a respected leader.

Dais has always been part of our group.

Although the no.6 guernsey was missing from the field in AFLW, season three, Dais was at every training session regardless of how she was feeling during pregnancy.

She was still passionate and eager to help prepare us for the season.

Daisy was determined and committed to giving herself the best chance to be ready for season four after the birth of her twins, Sylvie and Roy, and the many challenges that come with a young family.

She will quickly remind you that many people supported her on that journey.

I’ve had the pleasure of playing with Daisy for four years now and her attitude and strength of character have never wavered.

I saw this more than ever this season though.

She took on new roles both on and off the field, becoming a mum and playing in a different position off half-back, but she embraced them all.

Daisy said she questioned whether she would get back for the season, but we knew she would. Sure, she may have faced her challenges, but she couldn’t let us have all the fun again!

And when it comes to her leadership, Daisy is just true to herself.

She has a genuine desire to build strong relationships with all of her teammates.

Daisy is authentic, caring, respectful, supportive and most of all approachable.

She’s incredibly humble with the team’s best interest at heart above all else.

She captures the voice of the group really well and she understands the team’s and each individual’s needs really well and that’s what makes her such a great leader.
