22under22 Team of the Decade – By the Numbers

Richmond superstar Dustin Martin is one of the most popular players in the AFL and he proved that standing as the most selected player in the AFLPA’s 22under22 Team of the Decade, presented by Snaffle.

Martin was selected in 76 per cent of fans’ sides, ahead of Melbourne pairing Christian Petracca (74 per cent) and Brodie Grundy (73 per cent).

Geelong spearhead Jeremy Cameron appeared in 67 per cent of sides, while captain Marcus Bontempelli (65 per cent) and star midfielder Patrick Cripps (62 per cent) had the next best representation in sides.

Petracca and Grundy joined Clayton Oliver and Steven May in the final side, meaning Melbourne had the most players in the final team with four.

Richmond (Martin, Shai Bolton and Tom Lynch) and Carlton (Cripps, Sam Docherty and Charlie Curnow) were the next best represented sides with three players named in the side.

Cripps, Bontempelli, Martin, Andrew Brayshaw and Nat Fyfe were all selected in the team as the players who have been judged by their peers as the Leigh Matthews Trophy winners in their respective years.

The team is captained by Bontempelli who holds the record for the most selections in 22under22 teams since the concept began in 2013 with five.

Harris Andrews and Andrew Brayshaw, who both skippered 22under22 teams during their careers, were named as Bontempelli’s deputies.
