Adelaide forward dominates AFLW MVP of the Week

Adelaide forward Stevie-Lee Thompson has claimed a dominant victory after being voted by fans as the Round 2 AFLW Players’ MVP of the Week, presented by Gloria Jean’s.

The 26-year-old’s win was never in doubt, receiving a massive 67 per cent of the votes following her four-goal, 17-disposal performance in the Crows’ come-from-behind win over Carlton.

Although the North Melbourne Tasmanian Kangaroos progressed to a perfect start to the season, Emma Kearney’s performance in their win wasn’t enough to secure a second MVP of the Week winner for North Melbourne, with their captain receiving 23 per cent of the votes.

Melbourne co-captain Elise O’Dea, who collected 26 disposals, laid five tackles and kicked a goal in the Demons’ win over Collingwood, rounded out the three nominees for Round 2, finishing in third place with 10 per cent of the fan vote.

The AFL Players’ Association has partnered with Gloria Jean’s to stage the prestigious AFLW Players’ MVP Award at the end of the season, and the AFLW MVP of the Week again in 2019, a concept that provides the fans with the opportunity to vote for the best performer of the round.

Gloria Jean’s is the official coffee partner of the AFL Players’ Association and the proud sponsor of the 2019 AFLW MVP Awards, including the AFLW MVP of the Week competition. Each weekly entrant will receive a 2-for-1 coffee voucher to visit your local Gloria Jeans store.
