AFL COACHES’ VOTES – ROUND 17

A best on ground performance from reigning Brownlow Medalist Matt Priddis has seen him jump into equal-fourth spot, level with teammate Andrew Gaff, on the AFL Coaches’ Association Champion Player of the Year leader-board.

Priddis was one of six players to receive a perfect 10 from the coaches during Round 17, with Hawthorn’s Jack Gunston, Geelong’s Steven Motlop, Port Adelaide’s Travis Boak, St Kilda’s Sean Dempster and North Melbourne’s Drew Petrie also getting top marks from the coaches.

Fremantle’s David Mundy also joined the leaderboard – drawing level with Richmond’s Trent Cotchin and Sydney’s Josh Kennedy – after being awarded nine votes for his outstanding four-quarter performance, which culminated in the winning goal in the final minute of the game.

‘Boomer’ Harvey notched up five votes from the coaches in his 400th game while, at the other end of the spectrum, young Collingwood forward Darcy Moore received the first vote of his career, courtesy of a five-goal performance in the Magpies’ loss to the Western Bulldogs on Sunday.

Interestingly, former Bomber Paddy Ryder didn’t receive votes from either Ken Hinkley or James Hird in Port Adelaide’s win over Essendon on Saturday night.

Hird was criticised by some in the media for suggesting Ryder was “lucky” to have ended up with four goals, given he managed just four possessions in the first three quarters.
