Boyd Number 1 in Denmark too

Greater Western Sydney are hoping number 1 draft pick Tom Boyd can translate his obvious potential into some headline grabbing performances, but surely they didn’t expect the burly forward to be international news so fast.

Boyd’s selection as the first pick in the National Draft made front page news in the homeland of his mother, Denmark.

The headline on the front page of MetroXPress newspaper, Denmarks largest with a readership of 500 thousand, reads – ‘Young half Dane breaks through in Australian football’.

Boyd’s mother, Anita was born in Denmark and Tom spent some time there growing up, he still has family living in Denmark.

Don’t be surprised if a Danish flag makes its way into the GWS cheer squad next year.

“Hopefully the whole country can jump on board the Giants,” Boyd told afl.com.au
