The silver-lining from Fremantle’s rollercoaster season is the development for their future, with five Dockers featuring in the 2023 AFL Players’ Association’s 22Under22 squad, presented by Snaffle.

The Dockers had the most players represented in this season’s youth representative side, with Jordan Clark Hayden Young, Caleb Serong, Jye Amiss and Luke Jackson featuring, while Adelaide and Melbourne closely follow with four representatives each.

Highlighting the talent of their young stars, Fremantle also had the most players (four) selected in last year’s final 22Under22 side. Clark, Young and Serong made the final cut in 2022, with Jackson also securing himself a 22Under22 jumper while at the Demons.

The 44-person squad is selected by former AFL player, Michael Barlow as Chair of Selectors, with support from the AFL Players’ Association and Champion Data. Of the 44 players included in 2023, Bailey Smith is looking for his fourth selection in the final team, and will join Andrew McGrath, Aaron Naughton and Sam Walsh as four-time representatives if he does so, while Marcus Bontempelli is the most-selected player of all time with five 22Under22 jumpers.

The AFLPA is proud to partner with Snaffle as the major partner of the 22Under22 competition, giving fans who submit their vote the opportunity to claim some great prizes.

22Under22 Chair of Selectors, Barlow, said the current squad was full of players who have already proven their worth on the main stage.

“Picking a squad of 44 players is always a difficult task with the amount of serious talent that are already making their mark on the competition,” he said.

“These players are future All-Australians, best and fairest and MVP Award winners and the fans will have a tough time narrowing the squad down to a final team.”

For a player to be eligible to be selected in the squad they must be aged 22 and under for the entirety of the season (including Grand Final day – September 30) and have played a minimum of 12 games throughout the 2023 season.

As always, fans will decide the final 22Under22 team, with voting now open at vote.22under22.com.au for seven days from August 10 to August 17. The fan who selects the team that best matches the final side will win their choice of either Apple AirPods Pro or Samsung Galaxy Buds Pro, thanks to Snaffle.

This year’s 22Under22 final line up will be announced on August 23 via the AFLPA’s website and social media channels.
