David Parkin’s secret to footy success

Four-time premiership coach David Parkin knows a thing or two about success in the AFL.

He has told John Harms in the first of the AFL Players’ legend series that footy clubs need to take an interest in players as people to enhance their on-field performance.

“I think all good clubs take care of players, and are interested in their players, after your career is over,” Parkin said.

“Not so good clubs tend not to be interested.

“It’s a real difficulty because people pay coaches and staff to get a football result.

“They’re not paid to make this person a good citizen.

“What we think we know is the good citizen is going to be a better player.”

The full interview with Parkin and Harms will be live on AFLPlayers.com.au on Thursday morning.
