Fisher on his footy transition

Former Saint Sam Fisher wasn’t quite ready to give up his AFL career when he saw the news while holidaying overseas.

The veteran St Kilda defender was optimistic his position would be retained on the list for the 2017 season before the club signed another key defender in the off-season, which Fisher knew would seal his fate.

“I actually woke up on the Sunday to the news that Nathan Brown had been signed by the Saints, so automatically I knew I was in a bit of trouble,” Fisher told Aflplayers.com.au.

A couple of phone calls confirmed Fisher’s suspicions and a follow-up visit from St Kilda coach Alan Richardson to explain the situation was enough for the 34-year-old to start moving to the next phase of his life.

After a career that spanned 13 seasons, 228 games, two Trevor Barker awards and an All-Australian selection, Fisher still hadn’t found that underlying passion beyond football.

Luckily, a raft of internships and work experiences exposed Fisher to the business world which helped him land a role at online property listing tool HumblAbode.

In the video above, Fisher shares how his career came to an end, his new role and where he’ll be playing local footy this year.
