Have you met Ted?

The Sydney Swans’ emerging midfield and new-look forward line have been the talk of the competition in 2014, but it’s down at full-back where a star has remained constant. Ted Richards has become one of the leading defenders in the game, and one of its most courageous, since moving from Essendon to Sydney at the end of 2005.

When he’s not planning how to stop the game’s best forwards, Richards is often using the ocean pool at Bronte Beach in Sydney’s south as an escape from the stresses of the game. He goes a number of times each week, and always leaves feeling re-energised.

“I’ve got my own routine down here which is a bit OCD, but it’s worked for me for years” Richards explains.

“I guess it’s my form of meditation.”

As part of Channel 7’s @Home series, which supports Ladder – the AFL Players’ official charity – Richards discusses why having a release from the game is important.

@AFLPlayers are proud to support Ladder – every time a player runs out onto the field for his team, he donates $25 to Ladder.

As a group, players are committed to helping young people who have been homeless find a place where they feel at home. Join the players in supporting Ladder and match their donation today by clicking here. Together we can help Ladder to end youth homelessness.
