Hodgey takes epic Captains selfie

While he may not have previously been known for his reach, Luke Hodge stretched just far enough to take the twitter footy photo of the year at the AFL Captains Launch, squeezing 19 players into an epic selfie.

Emulating the record-breaking Ellen DeGeneres Oscars photo, Hodge’s photo has already received nearly 1500 retweets and 800 favourites and is spreading across the nation.

All the big names are there. Luke Hodge, Jobe Watson, Nick Riewoldt, Brett Deledio and Andrew Swallow form the front row. Fremantle skipper Matthew Pavlich looms behind them, along with the rest of the supporting cast including Gary Ablett Jnr poking his head over the back of the back.

While Hodge’s tweet has received a huge response from the AFL community it still has a little way to go to compete with the 3.2 million retweets and 1.78 million favourites Ellen’s tweet received (breaking a record for the most retweeted photo ever on Twitter).

While the Captains were all smiles in this photo, the mood changed during the media conference with Fremantle Captain and AFL Players’ Association Vice President Matthew Pavlich condemning the naming of Essendon players in newspapers on Sunday. To read more on this matter click here
