It was a cold and wet Friday night at North Brunswick Junior Football Club, but that didn’t stop TeamUp ambassador Dan Jackson from heading down to surprise the club’s juniors. The reigning Richmond Best and Fairest winner had been looking through the activities posted on the TeamUp app, saw a post by the North Brunswick Juniors and decided to drop in.
More than 50 children aged between nine and 14 attended the training session, and were amazed when Jackson arrived at the ground.
As he approached the group, several kids began yelling, “Look, it’s Dan Jackson!”
Jackson welcomed the large group of children, their parents and North Brunswick staff, explaining the mechanics of the TeamUp app and the benefits of the app.
“It’s really important both kids and parents are keeping active for their health and wellbeing,” Jackson said.
“The TeamUp app helps everyone connect and be active together.”
A thorough Q&A session followed, with questions like, “Are you stronger than Jake King?” and “Are you better than Jack Riewoldt” putting Jackson in the hot seat.
Jackson then joined each age group and helped with skills and drills sessions, running the kids through kicking, marking and handballing.
“There’s a few to keep your eye on, for sure,” Jackson laughed.
“I think there were a few Richmond tackers out there who were extra happy to see me! It was a great way for me to spread the TeamUp message and chat with parents about the benefits of using the app.”
North Brunswick FC Treasurer Robert Aminde had heard about the TeamUp app through some friends and went to the app store to have a closer look.
“We are a smaller club in the region and we’re looking to recruit kids and get them active in and around our area,” Aminde said.
“When I saw the TeamUp app in the app store, I knew it was a great fit for us.”
Aminde posted his club’s activity – a call out to budding young stars to come along to training.
Parents of the young players were thrilled to have Jackson visit the club, with one parent explaining his son “was just so excited to see Dan.
“It’s great our treasurer used the app and allowed Dan to drop in.”
