Joel’s study tour

The days of a boozy footy trip are done and instead many AFL players, including Geelong captain Joel Selwood, have dedicated some of their eight weeks annual leave to professional development.

Selwood and his recently retired older brother Adam are two of many AFL players in the United States spotted at American sporting events over the past weeks.

Some of the highlights from #jaadventures are as follows:

1. The boys were the guests of NBA franchise the Atlanta Hawks and saw the game from court side seats, with US rapper Ludacris nearby.

2. Saw Robert Griffin Junior III play QB at Cowboys Stadium.

3. Got into the spirit of a Texas college football with some pre-game tailgating.

4. Watched the Cincinnati Bengals practice from the sidelines, toured the facilities and met the owner.

5. Met the Memphis Grizzlies cheerleaders.

6. Saw Aussie Matt Dallevadova play guard for the Cleveland Cavaliers and ex-Melbourne rookie Cam Johnston punt for Ohio State University.

7. Caught up with Aussie Golfer Jason Day at an Ice Hockey game.

The Geelong skipper has been doing plenty to promote AFL while he is in the states. He was interviewed by Fox at the Cavs and Washington game, was as in-studio guest on Columbus (Ohio) sports radio and ran footy clinics with Adam at a Columbus YMCA.

The Selwood boys have packed plenty in so far and they’ve only just got to New York…Stay tuned.
