Western Bulldogs AFLW captain Katie Brennan and Melbourne Demons defender Neville Jetta were on hand at Yarra Primary School to help launch VicHealth’s Walk to School month.
Brennan said teaching young kid’s healthy habits from a young age was important to set them up for life.
“I’m super passionate about kid’s health and fitness. I was super active as a kid myself and it’s a great way to live,” she said at the launch.
“You get the physical benefits of being active but you also get so many mental benefits as well.”

As a parent of two young kids himself, Jetta said walking to school and physical activity was a great way to build confidence in children.
“As we know, the lifestyle and the way things are going parents are driving kids to school more and more because it’s convenient … but connecting with the family and enjoying a walk to school is benefiting children because they are getting up early and have a lot more energy before school starts,” he said.
VicHealth’s Walk to School program is a free, easy and fun way to get primary school kids and their families active this October. VicHealth is teaming up with the AFL Players’ Association to encourage Victorian primary school kids to walk, ride or scoot to and from school throughout October to help build healthy habits for life.
Participating schools have the opportunity to win a footy clinic led by an AFL or AFLW player. Join thousands of Victorian families for Walk to School 2018 — find out more and register your school at walktoschool.vic.gov.au.
