A best-on-ground performance from Richmond young star Monique Conti headlines the Round 5 AFLW MVP of the Week nominations, proudly supported by July.
Collingwood forward Chloe Molloy and Brisbane’s reigning best-and-fairest winner Emily Bates are the other two nominees in line for the weekly award.
In a historic evening for the Richmond Football Club, a prolific performance from Conti helped her side secure their first AFLW victory with a 47-point win over Geelong. In a first half that set up the win, Conti collected 17 of her 26 disposals continuing her stellar start to the year. The 21-year-old finished the game with four inside 50s and four marks in what will remain a memorable trip down the highway.
Despite not seeing the ball as much as she would have liked, Molloy was damaging with her eight disposals and proved the difference for the Pies. The 22-year-old kicked three goals, including two in the first half, to help set up the Pies’ record-breaking fifth straight win.
Playing on Melbourne defender Libby Birch, Molloy made her opportunities count and finished the game three marks to go with her majors, moving her to equal-top of the goalkicking table with nine for the season.
A clear best-on-ground in her side’s thrilling victory over the previously undefeated Dockers, midfielder Bates collected 26 possessions, four inside 50s and three clearances. Bates used the ball cleanly and showed her prowess through the middle as the Lions moved to second spot on the ladder.
