Footballers are sometimes criticised for towing party lines, taking things one week at a time and controlling the controllables. Thankfully, amongst a sea of clichés about big pre-seasons and heading back to the drawing board – wherever that is – the footy Gods have given us Nathan Grima.
The North Melbourne defender had a fairly low public profile before the Round 21 match against the Bombers…until he kicked the first goal of his 72-game career.
Grima’s celebration was priceless – his reflections on the goal have been just as good.
“Since [the goal] I’m going to nightclubs – drink cards, free entry,” Grima joked at North Melbourne’s Best and Fairest on Sunday night.
“I played 71 games before that and had to line up all night. Now I’m a rockstar!”
His sense of humour has made him a favourite amongst fans and footy journos alike.
I repeat, get @nathangrima17 his own television show. Funniest man in football. Organise something @spudfirrito @Thossian

The full video package about Grima’s goal – including an interview with the man himself – from the Syd Barker Medal can be found below. We’re hoping he bags another couple of goals next year, so we see his face on the screen a little more often.
