North’s King wins AFLW MVP of the Week

In what was her first game for her new team, North Melbourne ruck Emma King made the best possible start to her 2019 campaign, being voted by the fans as the first AFLW Players’ MVP of the Week for 2019.

The 24-year-old received a whopping 45 per cent of the fan vote following her 16 hit-outs, 10 disposals, seven tackles and two goals in North Melbourne’s dominant 36-point win over Carlton on Sunday afternoon.

Despite gathering 22 disposals, laying eight tackles and kicking the winning behind on debut, last year’s No. 1 draft pick Nina Morrison fell short of MVP of the Week honours, receiving 30 per cent of the fan vote.

Adelaide’s Ebony Marinoff, who collected 25 possessions and worked tirelessly in the Crows’ one-point defeat to the Western Bulldogs, rounded out the nominees in third place, finishing with 25 per cent of the fan vote.
