The AFL industry today paid tribute to Melbourne legend Robbie Flower, who sadly passed away last night.
As many have since reflected, his contribution to football and the Demons was immeasurable. He epitomised everything that made up a good footballer – he was dedicated, hard-working and respected by his peers. Off the field, he was as great a bloke as he was a footballer. Humble, loyal and graceful.
Speaking at the Madden Medal on Friday, AFL Players’ CEO Paul Marsh said, “It is with extreme sadness that we acknowledge the passing of Melbourne legend Robbie Flower.
“It’s clear from the public reactions how many lives he touched, which is a testament to his character. We are all thinking of Robbie’s family and friends during this time.”
The impact of his passing will continue to be felt across the industry and our community for quite some time, not just for his footballing prowess but because he was simply a decent and honourable person.
