ROAR TALENT: LIONS CONTINUE 22UNDER22 DOMINATION

The next generation of Brisbane stars has again conquered the AFL Players’ Association’s 22Under22 team, presented by Intrepid Travel.

As the reigning premiers eye a premiership three-peat, fans selected Will Ashcroft, Jaspa Fletcher, Logan Morris and Darcy Wilmot to make the final team.

This is the second-consecutive year the Lions have been the most-represented club in the 22Under22 side, and the third time Ashcroft and Wilmot have secured a jumper.

West Coast and North Melbourne were next in line with three players selected each. Willem Duursma, Reuben Ginbey and Harley Reid all appear for the Eagles, while fans voted Colby McKercher, Harry Sheezel and Cooper Trembath for the Kangaroos.

Sheezel is now in rare company, having been selected in the final 22Under22 team four times. This is a feat achieved only by Nick Daicos, Luke Jackson, Bailey Smith, Andrew McGrath, Aaron Naughton and Sam Walsh.

Marcus Bontempelli remains the sole player in the concept’s 14-year history to have made the final side five times.

Fans also voted Sheezel as Captain, the first time he has skippered the final side, while Ashcroft was appointed as his deputy.

Fans around the country selected their teams from an initial 40-player squad compiled by St Kilda legend Leigh Montagna, with support from the AFLPA and Champion Data.

Fresh from securing their minor premiership, Fremantle’s Murphy Reid received the most votes out of the entire squad, appearing in 81 per cent of fans’ teams. He was closely followed by Hawthorn gun Nick Watson, who appeared in 80 per cent of teams.
