Tex turns back the clock to claim MVP of the Month award

A career resurgence in the first five rounds of the 2021 AFL season has earned Adelaide’s Taylor Walker the MVP of the Month Award, supported by Jagger.

Walker received 49 per cent of the fan vote to claim the award ahead of Western Bulldogs midfielder Jack Macrae (32 per cent) and rising Hawthorn star Changkuoth Jiath (19 per cent).

After a disappointing 2020 season, Walker is averaging 17.4 disposals a game and 4.4 goals, with bags coming against Geelong (five goals), Sydney (six) and Gold Coast (six).

In line with the Bulldogs’ undefeated start to the season, Macrae is having a career-best year averaging 35.2 touches (up from 23.6 in 2020, 6.6 clearances and 4.2 tackles).

Macrae’s most dominant display came in the hotly contested victory over the Eagles, with the 26-year-old having 41 touches, nine clearances and eight inside 50s.

Hawthorn cult-hero ‘CJ’ Jiath burst onto the scene this season, earning coaches votes in the first four rounds. The dashing Hawks defender averaged 21.4 touches, 3.6 rebound 50s and 4.6 1 per centers across the opening five rounds.

The AFL Players’ Association MVP of the Month is a revamped concept and looks to recognise the AFL’s best performers each month. Fans will get the choice to select the MVP of the Month, after three names have been put forward by the AFLPA.

All fans who vote will go into the running to win a Jagger watch, valued at $395.

As an added bonus, Jagger are offering 10 per cent off on any product purchased online. Enter MVP2021 at the checkout to redeem this offer.
