Third time’s a charm for Dockers star

For the third time this season, Fremantle midfielder Kiara Bowers has been voted the fans’ MVP for Round 7, proudly supported by July.

Bowers became the first player to win the fan-voted award for the third time in a season, securing 61 per cent of votes ahead of Brisbane’s Ally Anderson and North Melbourne’s Jasmine Garner.

Staring down the barrel of their second loss for the season, the Dockers pulled off one of the greatest comebacks in AFLW history, overcoming the Blues by four points. Hard-nosed midfielder Bowers led the way with 10 tackles to go with her 28 touches (22 kicks), three inside 50s and three rebound 50s.

Nominated for the first time this season, Anderson led the way for Brisbane in their thrilling three-point victory over the previously undefeated Magpies. The silky midfielder was everywhere with 26 touches (a game-high 19 kicks), four marks and three inside 50s.

Reigning AFLW Players’ MVP Garner continued her strong season with a best-on-ground performance helping her side to an important 11-point victory over the Bulldogs, which all but solidified the club’s spot in the top eight. The 26-year-old gathered 28 disposals, laid eight tackles and six rebound 50s. But it was her work in the contest that was most impressive, finishing the game with a record-breaking 13 clearances.

The AFL Players’ Association AFLW MVP of the Week is in its fourth year and looks to recognise the AFLW’s best performers each round. Fans will get the choice to select the MVP of the Week, after three names have been put forward by the AFLPA.

All fans who vote will go into the running to win a personalised Carry Me bag from July, valued at $65. One lucky winner who votes each week will also go in the draw to win the ultimate July travel collection, including a Carry OnChecked Checked Plus bag valued at $895.
