Turbo-charged Docker sets the tone against Eagles

A unanimous choice as the first AFLW Derby medallist, Fremantle’s Kiara Bowers was always going to be a consensus pick as one of the nominations for Round 2’s AFLW MVP of the week.

North Melbourne midfielder Jasmine Garner and Brisbane’s Sophie Conway are the other candidates in line for the weekly award.

Bowers, nicknamed ‘Turbo’, was a tackling machine in front of 35,185 fans at Optus Stadium on Saturday, laying a massive 18 tackles to go with 13 disposals and four clearances.

She laid 11 tackles in the first quarter alone to underline the Dockers’ mindset in the 45-point victory.

Garner was equally influential against the Giants, gathering 19 disposals and kicking two first-half goals to highlight her class through the midfield.

Conway was crucial in the engine room for the Lions, picking up 15 disposals and laying eight tackles against the Cats.
