‘Turbo’ charges to the finish line

Fremantle midfielder Kiara Bowers has been voted by the fans as the Round 2 AFLW MVP of the Week.

Nominated for the fourth time in her 10-game career, Bowers claimed victory over Brisbane’s Sophie Conway and North Melbourne’s Jasmine Garner, earning her second AFLW MVP of the Week title.

Bowers’ 18 tackles proved too much, claiming a staggering 61 per cent of the votes over Conway (24 per cent) and Garner (15 per cent). Bowers was influential in her side’s 45-point victory in the first AFLW Western Derby, adding 13 disposals and tackling a pitch invader to her record of 18.

Brisbane’s rising star, Conway, collected 15 touches, laid eight tackles, took seven marks and kicked a goal as Brisbane stormed home to beat Geelong by 19 points at GMHBA Stadium.

North Melbourne midfielder Garner rounded out the three nominees, following her two goals, 20 touches and five tackles.

The AFL Players’ Association AFLW MVP of the Week is in its third year and looks to recognise the AFLW’s best performers each round. Fans will get the choice to select the MVP of the Week, after three names have been put forward by the AFLPA.

All fans who voted are now in the running to win an Official Sherrin AFLW gameball, valued at $189.99. A new winner will be selected each week, so don’t forget to keep voting.
