AFL Players Unveil Top 50 – 40 to 31

Which modern AFL superstars are most respected by their peers?

In the lead-up to Round 1, aflplayers.com.au (in conjunction with afl.com.au) will reveal the top 50 players in the game, as voted by the players.

He may be turning 34 in June, but Robert Murphy has been acknowledged as one of the competition’s best players by placing in the Players’ Top 50 for the 2016 season.

The much-loved Dogs skipper enjoyed a career-best year during his 16th AFL season, averaging a career-high for disposals and leading the Dogs from the brink of a crisis into a finals appearance in his first year as club captain.

The AFL Players’ Best Captain for 2015, Murphy polled just shy of the top 30, rocketing to number 31 after not featuring in last year’s count.

Murphy’s teammate Jake Stringer was also ranked between 40 and 31 this year, with the duo joining Marcus Bontempelli as the Bulldogs representatives in the Player’s Top 50 after the club failed to have a player feature in the 2015 list.

Stringer is one of four forwards between 40 and 31, with Eddie Betts, Jeremy Cameron and Adelaide skipper Taylor Walker positioned alongside Luke Beveridge’s excitement machine in the eyes of the players.

Tiger vice-captain Brett Deledio, Brisbane skipper Tom Rockliff and triple premiership Hawk Shaun Burgoyne have retained their places in the Players’ Top 50 count for consecutive seasons.
