Geelong’s Patrick Dangerfield has capped off a stellar debut season for the Cats by taking out the 2016 AFL Coaches’ Association’s Champion Player of the Year award.
Dangerfield was sitting atop the leaderboard for most of the second half of the season, but shot out to a 12-vote lead after Round 21 before polling seven votes in Round 22 to put the result beyond doubt.
The 26-year-old won by 28 votes over second-placed Rory Sloane, with Richmond’s Dustin Martin another three votes behind in third place.
