Pendlebury holds court

A lucky group of casual basketballers were treated to a Scott Pendlebury masterclass at MSAC last week.

The four-time All-Australian, who was a promising junior basketballer, found the group of five via the TeamUp app, and much to their surprise dropped in unannounced to shoot some hoops on his day off.

Watch below to see how it all played out.

After a solid three-on-three session, Pendlebury’s competitive instincts took over.

Recognising that one of the players – 19-year-old Jesse, who is part of the Andrew Bogut Academy – had some serious skills, Pendlebury wanted to test himself, challenging Jesse to a first to five game of one-on-one.

Jesse, an avid Collingwood supporter, was ecstatic when given the chance to measure himself against one of his sporting idols. Unfortunately, despite a distinct height advantage, Jesse found playing against Pendlebury tougher than he had expected.

“I’d heard he was a good junior, but he’s definitely still got it,” Jesse said afterwards.

“Playing against him was an awesome experience. I’m just rapt I found that TeamUp post and decided to come along.”

See below a highlights package of their one-on-one match.

There were plenty Collingwood supporters envious of Jesse’s experience once the video was uploaded to social media, but thankfully for Pies fans, there’s another chance to meet up with Pendlebury tomorrow.

“Everyone’s welcome, just bring a ball and a couple of mates and I’ll see you there,” Pendlebury says in the activity description on the TeamUp app.
