Svarc contrast as Lions gun salutes

Brisbane’s Cathy Svarc has been voted by the fans as the Round 4 AFLW MVP of the Week.

The mature-age recruit dominated the Giants on Sunday, collecting 23 disposals, laying 11 tackles and booting two goals as the Lions solidified their spot atop the Conference A ladder.

Svarc claimed 53 per cent of the votes, while fellow nominees Monique Conti and Emma Kearney held 28 per cent and 19 per cent respectively.

North’s reliable skipper Kearney led the Roos to a 13-point win over Gold Coast with 26 disposals, seven marks and five inside 50s in one of her best performances for the year.

In Bendigo, Richmond’s Monique Conti was valiant in the Tigers’ defeat to Geelong, gathering 28 disposals, five tackles, three inside 50s and three rebound 50s.

The AFL Players’ Association AFLW MVP of the Week is in its third year and looks to recognise the AFLW’s best performers each round. Fans will get the choice to select the MVP of the Week, after three names have been put forward by the AFLPA.

All fans who voted are now in the running to win an Official Sherrin AFLW gameball, valued at $189.99. A new winner will be selected each week, so don’t forget to keep voting.
