Dazzling Darcy claims AFLW MVP of the Week award

A five-goal from Carlton forward Darcy Vescio has earned her the Round 8 AFLW MVP of the Week award, proudly supported by July.

Vescio claimed the fan-voted award with 44 per cent of the vote ahead of St Kilda’s Georgia Patrikios (28 per cent) and Brisbane’s Isabel Dawes (28 per cent).

In a record-breaking win, Vescio kicked a career-high five goals from 15 touches as the Blues steamrolled the Suns to secure a 60-point win. Vescio’s five majors also brought her career tally to 40, becoming the first AFLW player to reach the milestone.

Led by 19-year-old Dawes, Brisbane all but secured a top-two spot with a 15-point victory over North Melbourne. The talented midfielder was consistent across four quarters, finishing with 19 touches, four inside 50s and three marks.

Last year’s AFLW Players’ best-first-year player Georgia Patrikios was a shining light in her side’s 46-point loss to top-of-the-table Collingwood. The 19-year-old gathered 29 touches, amassed nine clearances, laid six tackles and contributed six inside 50s.

The AFL Players’ Association AFLW MVP of the Week is in its fourth year and looks to recognise the AFLW’s best performers each round. Fans will get the choice to select the MVP of the Week, after three names have been put forward by the AFLPA.

All fans who vote will go into the running to win a personalised Carry Me bag from July, valued at $65. One lucky winner who votes each week will also go in the draw to win the ultimate July travel collection, including a Carry OnChecked Checked Plus bag valued at $895.
