Goodes’ Pitch Perfect

As Round 1 of the AFL season continued, another big sporting code was also kicking off its season. On the first day of the Major League Baseball season, the LA Dodgers went head to head with the Arizona Diamondbacks at the SCG. Indigenous Advisory Board Chairman, and 2014 Australian of the Year, Adam Goodes threw the ceremonial first pitch to get proceedings underway. In the lead-up, Goodes described the opportunity to help open the MLB season as “pretty special”.

“So many special people in America get to throw the first pitch at these sorts of games, so to be able to do that… it’s pretty awesome,” Goodes said.

Sydney teammate Heath Grundy was one of almost 40,000 spectators in attendance to see Goodes’s pitch. He captured the moment nicely on his phone, and promptly shared the video via his Instagram account. It certainly wasn’t the fastest pitch thrown on Saturday, but Goodes couldn’t have thrown it any straighter.
