Lutkins claims AFLW MVP of the Week

Playing in a losing side didn’t prevent Kate Lutkins from winning the Round 5 AFLW MVP of the Week, presented by Gloria Jean’s, after claiming 40 per cent of the vote from the fans.

Despite Brisbane falling narrowly to Melbourne on Friday at Casey Fields, Lutkins collected 26 disposals to lead all players on the ground. The dynamic midfielder is averaging just over 20 disposals per game over the past three encounters.

Lutkins just held off Daisy Pearce, after the Demon kicked two classy goals and gathered 24 disposals in her side’s victory over the Lions.

Adelaide’s Chelsea Randall, who has been one of the most consistent AFLW performers in 2018, finished in third place following her 15 disposals and seven tackles in their blowout win over Carlton.

The AFL Players’ Association has partnered with Gloria Jean’s to stage the prestigious AFLW Players’ MVP Award at the end of the season, and the AFLW MVP of the Week, a new concept that provides the fans with the opportunity to vote for the best performer of the round.
