The news keeps getting better and better for Melbourne. After starting the season with two emphatic victories, Karen Paxman has been voted by the fans as the AFLW Players’ MVP of the Week for Round 2, claiming 40 per cent of the votes.
The hard-working midfielder collected 21 disposals in her side’s 32-point triumph over last year’s premiers, despite spending only 71 per cent of the game on the ground due to a back issue.
Paxman narrowly held off Fremantle’s Dana Hooker, who received 36 per cent of the votes from the fans, while the Western Bulldogs’ Emma Kearney finished in third place.
The AFL Players’ Association has partnered with Gloria Jean’s to stage the prestigious AFLW Players’ MVP Award at the end of the season, and the AFLW MVP of the Week, a new concept that provides the fans with the opportunity to vote for the best performer of the round.
